The United Nations established ad hoc international criminal tribunals in Yugoslavia and Rwanda to prosecute those responsible for genocide, war crimes, and other atrocities and serious humanitarian violations in those particular conflicts.  

• The International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) was established by UN Security Council resolution 827 of 25 May 1993. The Statute of the Tribunal along with UN resolutions relevant to the Statute are available on the ICTY's official website under Documents. 
• The International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) was established by UN Security Council resolution 955 of 8 November 1994. The Statute of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda is available on the UN International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals' (legacy website of the ICTR) official website under Documents. 
• The International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (UNMICT) was established by UN Security Council resolution 1966 of 22 December 2010. The UNMICT's website contains the Statute and Transitional Arrangements as well as other relevant materials under Documents.
