ALWD Guide to Legal Citation

The ALWD Guide to Legal Citation is a style guide compiled by the Association of Legal Writing Directors. This is an alternative citation manual (competitor with The Bluebook) for legal citations.

Court Style Guides

Courts may have style manuals or guides that provide requirements for briefs, motions, and other documents or filings. Visit the court's website to see if there is a style manual or guide available.

Citation Manuals for Foreign & International Materials

The Bluebook does not provide much guidance on how to cite international and foreign materials. In the 21st edition, Table 2 (Foreign Jurisdictions) has been moved completely online and is available here. You may need to consult additional resources such as the ones listed below to assist with citing international and foreign legal materials.
