Cameroon joined the African Union (formerly the Organisation of African Unity) on 25 May 1963 and is a party to the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights.
In addition to the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights, Cameroon is also a party to additional regional treaties between African Union member states, including the Protocol to the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights on the Rights of Women in Africa.
