Case Dockets and Filings

This guide recommends strategies and resources for locating court case dockets and filings.

Overview and Coverage

Lexis offers extensive coverage of federal dockets. However, unlike Bloomberg Law, actual filings are only selectively available.

Dockets are available from the following courts:

  • U.S. Supreme Court

  • U.S. Circuit Courts of Appeals

  • U.S. District Courts

  • U.S. Bankruptcy Courts

  • U.S. Court of Federal Claims

  • U.S. Court of International Trade

  • U.S. Tax Court

  • U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation

  • U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims

  • U.S. Patent Trial and Appeals Board

  • U.S. International Trade Commission

  • U.S. Trademark Trial and Appeals Board

For case types and current coverage, see United State Court Information.

Accessing Lexis+ Dockets

From the Lexis home page, select “Dockets (CourtLink)” beneath the "Content" tab.

Alternatively, click here and enter your login credentials.

Searching Lexis+ Dockets

After selecting one or more courts from the "Within" drop-down menu, you will have the opportunity to enter identifying information in a variety of available fields, including:

  • docket number
  • date
  • judge
  • litigant(s)
  • attorney
  • firm

Note that, by default, only docket sheets will be searched. However, using the "Search for" drop-down menu, it is also possible to conduct searches of either available court documents or both dockets and available court documents.
