Requirements for Borrowing Library Materials

  • All borrowers must have a current, valid Northwestern University WildCARD or valid Northwestern University Law School Alumni Borrowing Card.

Requesting Materials & Book Pickup

Most items located in our library and other Northwestern University libraries including our Oak Grove Storage Facility can be requested directly from NUsearch. Items will be paged from our collection twice a day. Requests for titles from other Northwestern libraries may be delayed up to a week because of limited intercampus deliveries.  Library staff will place requested items in the book lockers outside of the library entrance on the 2nd floor of Rubloff and contact patrons to let them know when the items are available for pickup.

Off-campus delivery

We are now offering off-campus delivery for collections material to your home address. Interlibrary Loan books can also be shipped to a home address. We will make one shipment a week per patron to an off-campus location. If you request multiple items, they will be packed and shipped for once a week and mailed with UPS.

We will ship all circulating collections, including interlibrary loans, CDs, and DVDs.

  1. Sign in to Your Account in NUsearch with your NetID or username and password.
  2. Click on the "Get It" tab in the search results, and then select "Request" from the request options.
  3. Select "Law Library" from the "Pickup/Delivery Location" drop-down menu and indicate "Home Delivery" + your complete mailing address in the "Notes" field.

Self Checkout

Additionally, Northwestern Law faculty, staff, and students who have access to the physical library have the option to check out materials using our self checkout station located in the 3rd floor copy & print room (L33), next to the library's internal elevator.

If another borrower has placed a hold on a book it will not be renewed. Overdue fines apply to renewals. Reserve items are not renewable online but can be renewed by bringing them to the circulation desk.
