About This Guide

News research has changed greatly with the arrival of the Internet and the availability of electronic databases.  These electronic resources have altered the way newspapers are archived and the way one finds their content.  Online databases have replaced large print collections and microfilming is becoming a process of the past. Often the only way to retrieve an original newspaper article is through an online source.  Fortunately, the Northwestern libraries have access to almost all major U.S. newspapers, many international and regional resources through its database subscriptions.

This guide will assist with finding digitized newspapers, newspaper databases, and titles available in physical formats.  It will also highlight selected free web sites for aggregated news sources and single newspapers.

You can always look for a specific newspaper in NUsearch to determine whether the title is held by the library and in which formats it is available.
